Alcazar's operating company is commonly reported as having been established in November 1981, opening with a cast and crew of roughly a hundred people in a theatre seating around 350 guests. That's a modest starting point by the venue's later standards, but it placed Alcazar among the first wave of purpose-built cabaret theatres in a Pattaya that was only beginning to develop as an international beach resort, at a time when large-scale, Western-facing entertainment venues of this kind were still a relatively new idea for the town rather than the established fixture they'd later become.
A bigger stage for a bigger audience
As demand grew through the 1980s, Alcazar moved into a new, considerably larger theatre — widely dated to 1990 — built specifically for the production, with a reported capacity above a thousand seats and production-grade lighting and sound systems installed from the outset. That expansion is essentially the version of the venue visitors see today: a proper proscenium stage sized for the large casts, elaborate sets and full-company finales the show is now known for, replacing the more modest original room that had been outgrown within less than a decade of opening night.

Alcazar shares its status as a Pattaya institution with Tiffany's Show, commonly cited as having opened even earlier, in 1974, making it one of the country's first Western-style transformation cabarets. Between them, the two theatres effectively created, and then sustained for decades, Pattaya's reputation as a global centre for large-scale cabaret entertainment — each running multiple performances nightly, each building its own loyal following, and each drawing constant side-by-side comparisons from travel guides and returning visitors ever since, in a rivalry that has itself become part of the city's tourism folklore.
A format that spread across Thailand
Alcazar is frequently credited as one of the theatres that established the template later copied by cabaret venues across the country: a large, purpose-built stage, a resident cast performing lip-synced production numbers rather than live vocals, and a revue structure mixing Thai and international styles into one continuous evening. Newer Pattaya venues, including Colosseum Show, followed a broadly similar model decades later, adding their own scale and staging but keeping the same underlying format — which is itself a fair measure of how influential the original Alcazar blueprint turned out to be for the wider industry.
Still running, four decades on
More than forty years after its first performance, Alcazar continues to run several shows nightly in its purpose-built theatre — a genuine rarity for any live entertainment venue, let alone one that depends on constant, elaborate costume and set turnover between every single performance. Its longevity, alongside Tiffany's, is part of why travel guides routinely describe the two as Pattaya's essential, most established cabaret theatres rather than passing tourist novelties, and why both continue to appear near the top of most visitors' shortlists for an evening's entertainment in the city.
